Muscular Development To Feature Women
MD is running it's first feature on female muscle in it's February issue. "The Three Faces of Female Muscle" is about how FBB evolved into fitness and figure and what is in the future of all three categories. The magazine is also running 25 photos as part of the feature. The more copies of this issue MD sells the more they will be inclined to keep featuring muscle women. So anyone who wants this to happen should buy a copy of Feb MD. And you can tell MD you approve of their decision by Emailing editor Jill Evans at jevans@arp-ink.com. PLEASE - no abusive messages. This is an opportunity and we should make the best of it.

Where to Email thanks
An Email of thanks to Dave Palumbo for MD's decision to include women is well deserved. But for maximum effect Dave recommends sending those Emails to jevans@arp-ink.com where Steve Blechman will see them.

More on MD women's features
MD has a featured scheduled for their March issue on Dayana Cadeau. As far as I know this is the FIRST full feature ever done on Dayana in a major magazine. Even when she competed at less than 130 lbs the industry considered her to be "too big" because of her muscle shape and fullness.
It hasn't been confirmed yet but MD is considering an article in the April issue on what is keeping female bodybuilders from being as big as they should be considering how long the sport has been around.
Again, Emails to jevans@arp-ink.com encouraging MD's support of women's physique can make a big difference.

I just got the magazine in the mail a couple of days ago, and finally had time to read the article last night.
While I disagree with some of the points that were contained in the article, It was still well written and did a good job ringing the bell for the increased inclusion of FBB's in the bodybuilding "media".
I haven't had a chance to e-mail them yet but I will this week after I get my mind further around what the plusses (and minuses) are regarding the right and wrong types of coverage.
As with anything I write it won't be short, but I hope that it will be fair. As much as anyone I would like to see coverage increase for FBB's but it has to be the RIGHT type of coverage. For the time being I'd be content with robust contest coverage designed to let the fans pick their favorites. What I don't want is a group of men picking what they think they want the "future" to look like in the mags. We already have enough of that on-line and in the federations. Let's let the fans decide who they want to see more of, and then tailor the content to them.
Novel idea but it just might work.

I got the mag last night and read it. And I rarely get a magazine unless it has some good info. I found it to be an excellent article for female bodybuilders and fans who are relatively new to the sport and Bill basically covers the whole history of the sport and the current issues of women's bodybuilding today. Oh, don't forget the a great set of photos.
It was also thought provoking as well since he strictly kept his suggestions on how to improve things based on bodybuilding being a progressive sport and like he mentioned, "the nature of any sport is that it involves going to extremes." So to me, having followed the women's side of the sport as long as I have, it was refreshing seeing a different point of view on how things should be on the women's side. I commend MD for bringing back major women's bodybuilding content into their magazine.
I think a nice follow up to the article would look at the business face of Women's Bodybuilding. Even though more mainstream promotion of the women will help bring in and stimulate the pool of athletes in general, someone has to foot the bill. By the way, the feature is a different page than advertised. The TOC and the editorial mentions it's on page 262. It's actually on page 256. So, it was probably due to a last minute change or something.
Great job Bill.

not many times i have the same feelings than cory c :-)
i am a little worried that md will only bring their girls and this will make the competitions even more unfair.

MD coverage of female muscle
MD doesn't have "their girls." They haven't covered women of any sort for some time. They asked me to write about and submit photos on the subject because they knew I was interested in promoting ALL the different types of female muscle. Of course, the FBBs have gotten the least attention so putting them in magazines is important (March will be Dayana Cadeau). But anyone who reads the Three Faces of Female Muscle article in the Feb MD will see a lot of FBBs, fitness and figure women represented.
The important thing is not which women are included in the beginning - although there are certainly man who deserve the attention. It is the fact that one of the major magazines is increasing sales by running features on women physique competitors rather than just "fitness models." Hopefully the other magazines will take the hint and do the same.

They don't have their ladies "yet".
One lesson that MD has learned very well from the former Weider mags is the importance of "pushing" the in-house athletes.
I'm glad to hear that you're mentioning multiple articles. That's the key in my mind to providing the ladies a long term benefit from this.
Hopefully too they start to accept photos and articles from other writers and photographer's. One thing the public needs to understand is that there is a robust reporting engine behind bodybuilding that is providing a wide range of options for fans of FBB to get information.
